Building Hope for Mothers in Malawi

Mothers are the heart of our families and communities. We often say, if Mama’s not happy, no one is happy.  This is not a Mother’s Day post, but thank you, Moms, we love you!  What I really want to talk about today is the huge problem of women dying during childbirth.

Malawi has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world - we're talking 381 deaths for every 100,000 live births. For comparison, the maternal mortality rate here in the US is 21 deaths for every 100,000 live births.

The main causes of maternal death are excessive bleeding, infections, obstructed labor, and hypertensive disorders - medical emergencies that could often be treated if these mothers had access to hospitals and doctors.

Many factors contribute to this crisis in Malawi - widespread poverty, lack of transportation, long distances to adequate facilities, extended absence from home waiting for an at-risk birth, and more. When a mom starts having complications giving birth, it is extremely difficult for her to get the emergency help she needs.

We don't want these moms to die just because they can't reach a hospital. We want them to be able to safely deliver their babies and be there for their families.

From Sept 4th - Oct 3rd, 2023, we have the incredible opportunity to participate in a HundredX campaign where you can donate time instead of money to help us to build a surgery center at Grace Community Health Center, with 24/7 emergency care for moms and babies.

What can you do? Sign up today by texting DFG to 90412 and start sharing your feedback on brand products and services. Each survey you complete generates funds for our Surgery Center. Just 5 to 10 minutes of your day is all we need! Thank you for helping us save lives today!
