We are currently focusing our work in the country of Malawi.

This poverty stricken country is located in southern Africa near Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Malawi ranks among the world’s least developed countries according to the CIA World Factbook. Serious droughts in 2005 and 2006 have jeopardized the lives of 90% of the population dependent on agriculture to provide everyday needs such as food, clothing and housing. Less than 50% of the women in Malawi can read and write. Only 58% of the children finish primary school.

Extreme poverty and the severe AIDS epidemic have devastated Malawi to the point that families and communities can no longer cope, they can barely fend for themselves much less provide for orphans and widows. This leaves the orphaned children of Malawi in a very vulnerable place. Without proper nutrition now to grow healthy bodies, proper education and vocational training to develop job opportunities and mentoring to develop positive relationships, orphans have little likelihood of escaping the cycle of desperation.

The situation seems bleak and many are questioning is there any hope for Malawi?
